Sangrur: A 15-year-old schoolboy died on the spot of a head injury he sustained from a fall from the scooter when he got entangled in a China-made string. The incident happened on Sunday, the day Tanvir Singh, a class IX student of GeneralGurnamSinghSchool, turned 15. Tanvir was going to buy a birthday cake for himself, when he got entangled in a string near the Nankiana roundabout and lost balance. His scooter hit an electric pole and he died on the spot. He was decalred brought dead by doctors at the hospital, the victim's neighbours said. His father Mohinder Singh is an SDO in BSNL and posted in Srinagar. His colleague SDO Alok Jindal reached the hospital soon after hearing about the incident, where he was told about the tragic incident. DC Kumar Rahul said, "The administration has already banned Chinese strings and will look into the incident to take stern action against those found selling them". I think this is time for war. Last week, I was sitting on my 24k gold toilet in my Manhattan office and this China-made toilet paper cut my scrotum. Can you believe it? Most TOI readers who are commenting are not aware of the number of injuries sustained by birds and man during the Kite flying festival- Uttarayan, which is celebrated widely all over India but mostly in the Western states. They are not to be blamed because they are ignorant. Kites cause injury via the thread/string used to fly them- the ones made in China have bad reputation because they are made of nylon and don't break. The Indian made strings are non nylon and I guess of cotton so breaks easily. Hence when anyone gets entangled in these strings say the neck/face- and the string is pulled due to the mechanical factors- the body parts in contact gets injured. Many hundreds of birds are killed every year this way not to mention the human injuries and death. For all those Indian citizens favoring Chinese goods this ought to be an eye opener but not to be taken as an offense. No disrespectful comments will be tolerated.

I really agree with you guys. I really prefer the kind of Kite with easily broken strings, because the way the Kite fly away is so fabulous, it is looks like the launch of Rocket or something... Moreover, I always take the easyily broken jet which made by Tata, and I get high when a bird hit my jet, and my jet just break like sand and the bird is still live! It is the best Miracle the earth ever had!!

Chinese string is the string made in China. If its made in Australia, even with the same materials and quanlity, then it will be called Australian string.

You should first blame to Indian's Road. Every year thousands of people just die because of poor quality of the road. Secondly you should blame to the traffic rules in India. By the same logic we should ban scooters as many more fatal accidents happen while driving scooter. Had he walked, or traveled by Car or Bus or stay put in his house studying, this incident may not have happened. After all, human life is very precious and we should not allow anything to interfere with it.

hey bro these are plastic string and the striing made in india for kite flying is a thread which can be easily break if some little pressure is applied enough for kite flying....and these plastic strings which are made in china and we do could made them but we don't want...donnot break instead they streached up and beacome more sharper

Chinese threads are mainly nylon and magnetic, also at times plastic based on the research I did online- hence more dangerous. Yeah, 15 year old was driving illegally, not wearing a helmet, but let's get things clear that more incidents are reported where the killer thread slit the throats of drivers & not necessarily 15 year olds, or with or without helmets, even birds are the victims- hence the Chinese threads are to be blamed hands down.

Well only people who have some knowledge of matters should attempt to comment. Dude- Chinese threads are plastic and all the more difficult to be broken, are resilient and hence are popular with kite flyers. But that also means that they are more dangerous if someone gets entangled in them , unfortunately like this young boy who lost his life. NOTHING in this world is more important than life and if Chinese threads are responsible for multiple cases of injuries and deaths of both birds and anima they should be PERMANENTLY banned- be it Chinese, Indian, Bangladeshi or American. Got it?

Your heading is misleading as is the normal practice of your newspaper, instead of pointing at the malaise of people not wearing a helmet while riding a two wheeler, you say it was because of Chinese thread that the poor boy died he could have very well died of getting entangled in Indian thread too.

Not to play devil's advocate, but if the ill fated boy was wearing his helmet, me might have survived the fall. I am not at all pointing to the fact that 15 year old was driving a vehicle which is illegal. On second thought kite flying should be banned in city area. Anyone can get hurt, lots of young people lost their lives to string entangling accidents. Even a single is worth saving against the fun of all people having flying kites.

It's a joke on the administration- Chinese threads are sold openly for kite flying - not sure how many deaths will occur before the Chinese threads will disappear from the country. Indians ought to be more aware of the ill effects.

正是因为他们（印度政府）够理智，所以才会怪绳子。
你想想，如果他们怪电线杆、道路、交通法规、安全帽...最后都会指向一个目标--印度政府，这种事，印度政府是绝对不干的，所以了，你懂得。
这只是一起看似不太成功，却已部分成功的视线转移案例。虽然事情被人呲之以鼻，但是印度政府的责任却最终被忽略了过去。
